Workshop speakers
Beth Eastlick, Associate Director, Foundation Relations
Beth A. Eastlick has been Associate Director of Foundation
Relations in the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations for five
years. As part of this position, she is
also Assistant Director for the Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation. She joined University Development in 1997,
having worked in Accounting, at Duke University Press and for the
Department of Economics during the eight prior years. Originally from
The Office of
Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR), initiates and coordinates
interactions with corporations and foundations on behalf of the entire
university, engaging in relationships that support Duke's teaching, research,
and service mission. For faculty, staff, and administrators, CFR provides
assistance in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major grants
and gifts. For corporations and
foundations, CFR facilitates mutually beneficial collaborations, partnerships,
and sponsorships at the local, national, and international level in areas such
as philanthropy, sponsored research, student recruitment, technology transfer,
and continuing education.
Keith Hurka-Owen, Associate Director, Office of Research Support
Keith Hurka-Owen
negotiates Sponsored Research Agreements with corporations and
subcontract agreements with other educational institutions, process proposals
from PIs in all Arts & Sciences Departments, lead educational workshops for
Duke grant managers and PIs. Educate/facilitate grant
managers and PIs through the proposal submission
process and pre-award process, interpret grant award Terms and Conditions to
authorize changes, meet tight deadlines working under pressure while
maintaining a professional demeanor and willingness to provide quality service,
team leader for Grants and Contracts section of ORS. Education: M.A. in
English.
